For the past 5 years the school has been ably lead and managed by John Paitai as both Acting Principal and Principal. In May this year John tendered his resignation from this position to take up a much
deserved rest after 48 years of service to education. The school, Board of trustees and community wish him well and will acknowledge his time with the college accordingly.

John’s resignation has led to the board undertaking one of its most significant roles for a school board –
appointment of a Principal. After completing the process of all that is involved; the Board is very pleased to announce that Edith Painting-Davis (pictured left) has accepted the position of Principal Bay of Islands College. Edith is well known to the community, wife of Tawio Davis and mother to Deyne, Bodene, Michael and Ngawaiora.

Daughter of Hokimate and Frederick Painting, Edith was born in Kawakawa, attended schools at Kawakawa Primary, BOI Intermediate, BOI College and  went on to teacher training in Auckland and then took up teaching positions at Whangarei Intermediate, Birkdale in Auckland and Bay of Islands College, Kawakawa. In 2010 Edith completed her post graduation diploma in Education and started her Masters degree in Education and is currently working towards completing this. With high energy and high performance Edith will take up her role in January 2019  which marks her 30th year of teaching.

Message from Board Chairperson

To parents, caregivers, students and the wider community of Bay of Islands College.  Tena koutou katoa.

As chairperson of the Board of Trustees I would like to thank those who attended the recent Te Ropu Whakakotahi / Community Liaison Committee meeting held in the staffroom recently.

At this meeting the question that was asked was. “What were your dreams and aspirations for a new principal?” The Board appreciated your positive participation and your insightful responses.

We wanted to make sure that the footprint Matua John leaves was more than well matched with room to build and grow our school’s future.

Del Bristow    Chairperson Board of Trustees

E nga mana, e nga reo, e nga maunga, e nga awaawa, e nga pataka o nga taonga tuku iho, tenei te maioha, te mihi, tena koutou, tena koutou, tena koutou katoa.

“Kokiri Ngatahi” / Advance Together our school whakatauki reminds us of the importance of being able to work collaboratively. Throughout this year we have seen teams of students, parents, staff and our Board members working together to achieve success across a range of opportunities offered to our students in activities such as chess, singing, Rugby Sevens, Table Tennis, fundraising for European Tour and NCEA assessments to name a few.

The jewel in the crown being the combined efforts of many in achieving the opening of our brand new gymnasium. The lessons learnt have provided valuable life skills for our Year 13’s as they move beyond high school on their life journey.
